Violence, bullying and other forms of harassment in the workplace are major social challenges with serious consequences for individuals and workplace organisations. But there are major gaps in our knowledge about methods for preventing and stopping violence and harassment, protecting victims and being proactive in workplace environments. Research and evidence-based knowledge is necessary to develop new and more effective measures to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.
In light of this and based on the pilot study Nordic knowledge boost on sexual harassment, the Nordic Council of Ministers decided on a cross-sectoral research initiative on sexual harassment in the workplace, which NIKK manages. The initiative is a collaboration between the Nordic Council of Ministers’ gender equality, cultural and working life policy area and the Nordic Child and Youth Committee.
The initiative has a particular focus on prevention and intervention methods based on industry studies and comparative studies of different industries. There were two rounds of calls for applications for research funding in 2021, which resulted in five research projects. The research projects will be completed in 2023, when the communication of the results of the research will also begin.
