Generation Equality Nordic

To mark the 25th anniversary of the UN Action Plan of Beijing in 1995 on gender equality, the Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality 2020, worked together with UN Women, to make Nordic young people’s perspectives on global equality issues visible. NIKK was commissioned to develop and implement the Nordic sub-campaign #GenerationEqualityNordic, as part of the Danish Presidency’s project ‘Young, Beijing +25 and the future gender equality policy’. The campaign aimed to:

  1. Make visible young people in the Nordic countries’ commitment and views on the rights of girls and women and what is required in the work on gender equality
  2. Communicate what the Beijing platform is, that it was celebrating 25 years, that it is important that young people have views on what is needed, and countries’ status reports.
  3. Return this to decision-makers in the Nordic countries, who in turn have committed themselves to casting their votes in the UN to make young people’s views in the Nordic region part of the global conversation.

Due to Covid-19 all global summits were cancelled. In the light of this, the campaign was ended in advance. Yet, to continue the conversation, young people were invited to meet with the Nordic gender equality ministers. Their perspectives will be included in the new Nordic Co-operation Programme on Gender Equality.
