Our mission

Nordic Information on Gender (NIKK) is to contribute to Nordic knowledge by compiling and strategically communicating research, policy, practice and other relevant information in the gender equality and LGBTI area in the Nordic countries.

NIKK’s task includes:

  • Compiling and strategically communicating research, policy, knowledge and practice, from a Nordic and cross-sectoral perspective, to contribute to the implementation of the Nordic Co-Operation Programme on Gender Equality and its supplement for the LGBTI area and gender equality policy in the Nordic countries
  • Communicating and promoting MR-JÄM’s activities in various forums.
  • Supporting MR-JÄM, its Nordic Committee of Senior Officials for Gender Equality (EK-JÄM) and the Presidency with a knowledge base communicated in a way that contributes to prioritised activities and projects. This support also includes sharing expertise, experience, contacts and communication channels relevant to Nordic co-operation
  • Initiating and undertaking activities related to the implementation of Nordic co-operation, sectoral and action programmes related to gender equality and the LGBTI area
  • Taking on assignments that fall within the scope of NIKK’s activities from the rest of the Nordic Council of Ministers, provided that additional resources are allocated and the implementation is compatible with other prioritised activities
  • Managing MR-JÄM’s aid schemes, the Nordic Gender Equality Fund and the Nordic LGBTI Fund 1, in accordance with their guidelines. NIKK is also responsible for systematically monitoring the progress of Fund projects and how they can contribute strategically to the implementation of the Nordic Co-Operation Programme on Gender Equality and its supplement for the LGBTI area.

The priorities set out in the Nordic Co-Operation Programme on Gender Equality for the period 2019-2022 and its supplement for the LGBTI area both guide and govern NIKK’s activities.

NIKK’s current task extends to 2030.
