Gender Perspectives on Rural Realities in the Nordic Region

During 2018, NIKK was tasked by the Swedish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers with producing a body of material that would visualise the differences in the social conditions governing the lives of women and men in sparsely populated areas and how these differences are affecting migration patterns in the Nordic countries. As part of this project, NIKK in conjunction with Nordregio (an international research center for regional development and planning established by the Nordic Council of Ministers) produced maps showing demographic composition and access to education, jobs and care by municipality in the Nordic countries. The project findings were presented in a film (see below) that kicked off the Nordic Council of Ministers’ events during the UN Commission on the Status of Women session in New York in 2018.
