Our mission

Nordic Information on Gender (NIKK) will contribute to joint learning by compiling, analysing and strategically communicating research, policy, practice and other relevant information in the field of gender equality and LGBTI in the Nordic region.

Nordic Information on Gender (NIKK) is a co-operation body under the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality and LGBTI. NIKK will be managed by the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research at the University of Gothenburg during the period 2025–2030.

Through knowledge production, dissemination and networking, NIKK will contribute to achieving the objectives of the Nordic Co-operation Programme for Gender Equality and LGBTI 2025–2030 by:

  • Collecting, generating, analysing and disseminating knowledge about policies and practice relevant to gender equality and LGBTI issues in the Nordic Region.
  • Raising the profile of Nordic co-operation on gender equality and LGBTI issues in relevant Nordic, national and international contexts.
  • Developing initiatives and policy platforms to fulfil the co-operation programme and develop knowledge-based policies on gender equality and LGBTI policy in the Nordic Region in support of the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality and LGBTI, their Committee of Senior Officials, their presidency and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Secretariat.
  • Facilitating networks and forums for dialogue through co-operation with actors involved in gender equality and LGBTI issues in the Nordic region, to share experiences and disseminate relevant knowledge on policy and practice.
  • Manage the Nordic Gender Equality Fund and the Nordic LGBTI Fund for the period 2025–2030, in accordance with the guidelines adopted by the Committee of Senior Officials. NIKK has the responsibility and mandate to manage the results of the funds to fulfil the Nordic Co-operation Programme for Gender Equality and LGBTI 2025–2030.

NIKK receives an annual basic grant determined by the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality and LGBTI to fulfil its core activities, which are to:

  • Design and organise projects and anchor, disseminate and manage results at the end of the project period.
  • Disseminate Nordic perspectives and results in co-operation with Nordic, national and international actors, institutions, organisations, networks and environments in the fields of gender equality and LGBTI.
  • Manage and administer the Nordic Gender Equality Fund and Nordic LGBTI Fund and anchor, communicate and utilise the results generated by the funds.

NIKK can be awarded additional assignments based on further funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality and LGBTI and other areas under the Nordic Council of Ministers.

NIKK’s current task extends to 2030.
