Pushing for progress and would benefit from collaboration and more resources?
Then you have come to the right place. NIKK administers the Nordic LGBTI Fund on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, with the purpose to stimulate Nordic collaboration in the field of LGBTI.
In many countries and regions around the world, the rights and opportunities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people are under pressure. Although conditions for LGBTI persons* in the Nordic region have improved over the past 70 years, several challenges remain before everyone can enjoy equal opportunities regardless of gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.
One of the challenges, noted by the Nordic Council of Ministers, is the growing resistance, regression and push-back against equal rights for LGBTI persons, both globally and within the Nordic region. In light of this growing polarization, the ministers are committed to maintain the Nordic achievements and push for further progress.
* LGBTI is an abbreviation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex. The abbreviations may vary in the Nordic countries, but LGBTI is used consistently in official Nordic cooperation, as it is in other international organisations.
The Nordic LGBTI Fund finances collaborations that promote opportunities and rights for LGBT persons. Through the Fund, the Nordic Council of Ministers issues an annual call for proposals for funding projects, in which at least three different organisations, from at least three different Nordic countries, collaborate. The projects can, for example, contribute to the exchange of experience, new knowledge and Nordic networks.
Would you like to see examples of what the projects can involve? Please look at the page “Projects granted funding last year” (link). Do you have a project idea? Take a look at your Nordic neighbours, seek cooperation and share the knowledge you create.
NIKK administers the fund on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, which includes announcing calls for proposals, assessing applications and following up on results.
